The Bachelor of Arts in Art Education leads to certification as an art teaching specialist in the state of Maine, grades K-12. Students choosing the developmental disabilities concentration may be preparing to work with mainstreamed students in public schools or to go on for graduate study.
The Division of Music offers coursework leading to three separate undergraduate degree programs—Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Bachelor of Music in Performance. The Bachelor of Music in Music Education professional degree program is for students who intend to pursue a career either as a public school teacher or supervisor of Music Education. Students in the Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) programs pursue Teacher Certification or Exercise Science. Each career preparation path leads to a thorough physiological, mechanical and developmental understanding of human health and physical performance. Upon graduation, students become teachers, coaches, fitness specialists/administrators, or pursue advanced degrees in allied health fields such as; physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, physician or physician’s assistant.

The Department of Art offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education. Art Education today includes research, the study of educational theory, the development of studio skills and practice in teaching. A combination of study in studio, art history, aesthetics and art criticism helps Art Education majors develop a comprehensive understanding of how art knowledge is organized and conveyed. Courses leading to the Teacher of Children with Disabilities (282) endorsement are offered through a collaborative agreement among the University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK), University of Maine at Machias (UMM), and the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI), with grant support from the Maine Department of Education (MDOE). Four or more of the special education courses in the sequence will be offered state-wide each year, with at least eight different courses offered every two years. Applicants for the endorsement will be required to complete the following: Complete a minimum of 24 credit hours in special education Pass Pre-Professional Skills Test

The Kinesiology & Physical Education program provides training and professional experience for teachers and for exercise science specialists that serve as a springboard for a host of exciting careers. Students use the latest technology to measure, analyze and understand human movement and development. They also work with special needs children to help develop appropriate and responsive programs. The Exercise Science Program focuses on the physiology and biomechanics of human performance. The different options within this program prepare students for a wide range of career possibilities in allied health and business management. The teaching/coaching certification program emphasizes theory into practice. Even before they
