Degrees for Education

The Department of English Language Teaching offers a B.A. program in English Language Education, and graduate programmes leading to an M.A. degree in English Language Education.

The basic components of the undergraduate programme consist of professional courses including methodological and pedagogical approaches to foreign language education as well as raising students’ awareness of the English language system. The Department of English Language Teaching provides courses related to second language acquisition and language teaching methodology such as Teaching Young Children, Linguistics, Translation (English to Turkish and Turkish to English). The department also organizes practice teaching in selected schools. Other courses in the programme are offered by various departments within the Faculty of Education. Through elective courses, students are provided with opportunities to pursue individual interests in various cultural and professional subjects.

Our department, which was founded in 1995, began taking students in the 1995-1996 academic year. It began evening education in 1996-1997. As such, education has been continuing until the present day.

Our aim is to train Turkish teachers who will work for our country’s education. There are a total of 16 classes and 505 students in both first and second education.  Students who graduate from our department may become a Turkish teacher in any state or private school. They may also find employment in Turkish teaching centres.

History Education is one of the programmes in the Department of Social Sciences Education in the Faculty of Education. The educational duration of this programme became 3.5+1.5 years as a result of reconstruction of the faculties of education in 1998. Students complete the courses of the first seven terms in the History section in the Faculty of Sciences and Arts and the courses of the eighth term in the History Education section of the Faculty of Education and complete their bachelor degree, and also take their ninth and tenth term courses as a non-thesis master’s degree programme affiliated with their undergraduate degree in the Institute of Social Sciences. Programs (3,5+1,5) intended to train Secondary School teachers of a specific field in the corpus of the Education Faculty were reviewed by The Higher Education Plenary Committee at a meeting on July, 11th 2007; and as a result, the council abolished the unification of undergraduate program and non-thesis program and resolved that aforesaid programs would be spread out within 5 years. In this respect, history teacher training program consists of 5 annual teaching programs.

Geography Education is a programme in the Department of Social Sciences Education. As a result of the reconstruction of faculties of Education in 1998, the education duration of this chair became 3.5+1.5 years. Students are educated in the Faculty of Science and Literature for the first seven terms and then continue their education in the Faculty of Education for three terms. After successfully completing the undergraduate programme, they attend the “postgraduate programme without thesis combined with undergraduate” programme in the Social Sciences Institute. Programs (3,5+1,5) intended to train Secondary School teachers of a specific field in the corpus of the Education Faculty were reviewed by The Higher Education Plenary Committee at a meeting on July, 11th 2007; and as a result, the council abolished the unification of undergraduate program and non-thesis program and resolved that aforesaid programs would be spread out within 5 years.

In this respect, history teacher training program consists of 5 annual teaching programs. Four separate programmes are incorporated within this section, namely, geography teacher training undergraduate program, non-thesis master degree programme affiliated with undergraduate degree of history teaching (3.5+1.5), non-thesis master degree programme in Geography Teaching (4+1), and master degree with thesis in Geography Education.

The teaching programme is designed for the purpose of providing pre-service teachers with fundamentals of social studies teaching. Social Studies Education is a four-year (8 semester) undergraduate program. First three years students take mainly fundamental courses such as Social Sciences, History, Phisolophy, Turkish, Foreign Language, Principles of Ataturk and History of Revolution, Computer, Sociology, Geography, Psychology, Economy, Citizenship, Archeology, Child Literature, Geography of Tourism, Class Management, Teaching Technology, Human Relations, etc. The fourth year of the programme consist of some practical experiences.

The purpose of early childhood teachers is to prepare teachers who care and educate young children in early childhood education services such as kindergartens in public schools, child cares, and private colleges. Teacher Training in Early Childhood Programme offers Play in Early Childhood, Special Instruction Methods, Child Development & Psychology, Language Development in Children, Introduction to Teaching, Mental Health & Adaptation Disorders, and Teaching Knowledge.

Department of Health Education & Promotion at East Carolina University. The mission of the Department is to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service as we strive to protect and promote the health of the population. We seek to advance knowledge and understanding of the factors affecting health and prepare students for professional and leadership roles in athletic training, environmental health, and health education and promotion. The Department provides support for professional, university and community service programs and activities, including undergraduate health instruction as a component of the University’s general education requirements.

The Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department, which was founded in 1992 in the framework of the Faculty of Education, started to offer instruction in the 1993-1994 academic year.

Our department has a multi-purpose sports hall for practical courses; a small hall for gymnastics, wrestling, aerobics, step, dance and folk dancing; a body-building centre; two open tennis courts, and two open volleyball and basketball courts, all of which are situated on the Anafartalar Campus within the Faculty of Education.

Swimming and other water sports activities take place on the Dardanos Campus of our university. Apart from these, our department organises regular scouting, camping, and orienteering activities.
