The master's degree in secondary education is for individuals who want to develop competencies necessary to function as a master teacher and to professionalize a standard teacher's license. The degree focuses on educational inquiry throughout the required course offerings culminating with an exit course that requires a research document and oral defense.

Northwest offers an add-on certification for ELL/ESOL. ELL Certification is recommended for mainstream elementary and secondary teachers who have English language learners in their classes and have completed a Masters degree in Education. The Masters Degree in Teaching ELL is a 32 credit hour program. This degree is recommended for mainstream elementary and secondary teachers of English language learners who do not already have a Masters degree in a related field. Admission Requirements A minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 OR an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.50-2.74 AND a 3.25 GPA on eight hours of required graduate coursework at Northwest in the major
