This course has been designed in partnership with local primary schools to meet the requirements for Postgraduate teacher education.
The course will prepare you to teach across the primary age range and in all National Curriculum subjects. You will be equipped to meet the National Standards for the Award of Qualified Teacher Status. You will start the course having decided whether you wish to focus on teaching Early Years or Later Years.
Its flexibility means the full programme may be followed on a part-time basis over a two-year period or less for applicants with prior experience.
For applicants who have substantial, relevant experience, the course could be undertaken over a much shorter period, the shortest being one term full-time. An assessment only route is available for suitable, highly experienced applicants.
The training programme followed is based on the outcome of your initial needs analysis module, providing, as appropriate, opportunities for accreditation of prior learning and experience.
Is there any financial help available? The government currently offers a £4,000 training bursary (pro rata) to all PGCE trainees. For flexible routes this is paid in two instalments, one at registration and one on recommendation for QTS. Course fees are payable by all PGCE students, including Flexible. Other financial incentives assistance with repayment of student undergraduate loans are also available.
