Washington State University Tri-Cities offers the Master of Education (Ed.M.) degree in Literacy Education. The Ed.M. is a non-thesis degree designed for teachers and administrators wishing to extend their professional knowledge and enhance their competence as practitioners. Course credit also may be used to meet continued certification requirements, lead to a Reading , Bilingual, and/or ESL Endorsement. Coursework may also be used to fulfill the Professional Certification Requirements. The Literacy Education program focuses on literacy development across the grade levels (K-12) and across the curriculum.
The Ed.M. program consists of a minimum of 35 semester hours of which 33 hours must be in graded coursework. The program of study culminates in a 6-hour final written examination. There is no oral examination. Program courses are sequenced and scheduled to permit full-time teachers and administrators to complete the degree in approximately two years, with full-time enrollment available during summer sessions

Washington State University offers an Ed.D. degree tailored to the needs of working professionals, with specializations in community college leadership, educational leadership, and teacher leadership. The four-year, part-time program combines distance learning with limited time spent on WSU campuses in Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, or Vancouver. There is also an Ed.D. specialization in higher education administration, which can be earned on a full-time or part-time basis in Pullman.
Priority application deadline is January 10. Please apply to your preferred campus: Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, or Vancouver.
Program Background
The Department of Teaching and Learning at WSU Tri-Cities offers a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Students are encouraged to meet with a WSU Tri-Cities education advisor to discuss prerequisites, admissions, and transfer course equivalencies.
The bachelor’s degree in education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and the State of Washington.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a degree from an accredited 4-year institution and a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. The GPA is based on the last 60 semester hours of graded course work. A writing sample, letter of intent, and three letters of recommendation are required. Students should have a strong background in teaching and/or language or literacy.
