MA Education Program This program is aimed at the comprehensive development of prospective teachers and strengthening their background on conceptual and practical issues related to improvement in education and the continuing professional development of the teachers. Our scheme of studies for MA Education contains a variety of courses reflecting the interdisciplinary approach. It consists of about twelve core courses and four courses from teaching specialization and three courses from any area of specialization in almost each subject which are being taught at elementary and secondary level in our country. It also involves a great deal of research work in the form of assignments, term papers, seminars, projects and thesis. Our emphasis on the courses of functional English and communication skills is our major distinction because all works (teaching-learning activities) are done in English. Moreover we focus on developing the skills of practical applications of computers in different fields of education like searching, entering, and analyzing data while doing research. So professionalism & entrepreneurship in teaching is our major focus. Moreover the degree of MA Education is equivalent to BEd and MEd.

MA in Music Education at Shepherd College West Virginia

All students take a nine-credit-hour core (three courses) that includes history, theory, and research. Also required of all master’s students are nine hours in education, including two education courses and three hours of practicum (including portfolio review).

Finally, students choose an emphasis in elementary, choral, band, or orchestra and complete the degree with nine credits in their area of specialization. A recital/project or a thesis is required as the culminating event. These can include conducting or accompanying performances. The graduate advisor closely monitors the thesis.

Entrants must have completed a bachelor’s degree in music and be certified to teach. Interested students without certification will be directed to the undergraduate certification program before pursuing the master’s degree. A videotape of teaching or conducting, an entrance interview, and a theory and history diagnostic exam is also required. The results of these exams may require remedial preparation before admission (this is called provisional acceptance) through either the applicant’s individual effort or by enrolling in coursework prior to admission.

Master of Studies of the Child - Area of Specialization in Curriculum Integration and Educational Innovation

The nature and requirements of the social changes and the guidelines of curriculum policies, the schools put new ways of designing and organizing the school work, in which the curriculum has a key role. Thus, this course aims to meet the needs of changing school practices, focusing on integrated approaches to curriculum and the processes of educational innovation.

The course is intended for specialized training and professional depth of Basic Education (Pre-school education. 1 and 2. Cycles), particularly those that (i) play a coordinating role and guidance related to curriculum development, (ii ) wish to deepen their skills in the construction of projects of school curriculum and class, (iii) attached to the Professional Practice Initiation schools cooperating. It is addressed, as well as professionals who coordinate and evaluate projects of educational innovation, as well as technicians and advisors involved in the design, development and evaluation of curricula and materials.

The Doctor of Education degree with a major in Adult and Career Education provides advanced, professional learning for individuals pursuing careers in teaching and leadership of adult and career education and related fields.

This program prepares students for working with adult learners in career education fields in the secondary and postsecondary education and private workforce education and government agency contexts. The Ed.D. program requires a minimum of 45 semester hours of coursework and a minimum of 9 semester hours of dissertation work.

A comprehensive exam must be successfully completed for a student to enroll in dissertation courses. The program is designed as an interdisciplinary program. A faculty advisor will be assigned to each student based on the area of specialization. Within the program of study a minimum of 3 hours must be taken from courses offered outside the College of Education. The advisor and the student will jointly conmplete an approved program of study to be followed.

MA in Literacy Education at New York University

The Department of Teaching and Learning offers Master’s degrees in Literacy Education: Birth through Grade 6 and Grades 5 through 12. These programs provide certified classroom teachers with the opportunity to earn the New York State Literacy Specialist Certificate. These curricula are designed to prepare classroom teachers at the early childhood, elementary levels, or content area teachers at middle school and high school levels to address the needs of all their students by integrating strategic teaching of reading and writing throughout their speciality. The program also focuses on the role of the literacy specialist in the whole-school context and assists each student in developing the competence and the confidence needed to assume such a role. Full-time students can finish in two years.

Program Philosophy

The literacy master’s programs represent literacy as the means by which people think, learn, and communicate through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The curricula are designed to help teachers understand the principles of language and literacy learning and the development of diverse learners, especially those who are experiencing difficulty with literacy learning, across developmental levels, academic disciplines, and social and cultural contexts. These programs support the development of teaching expertise in the role of literacy specialist and in a particular area of specialization within the curriculum selected by students. For example, the integration of strategic teaching of reading and writing within different content areas (e.g., social studies, science, or math) or clinical work in literacy could be areas of specialization. The course of study builds on the participants’ professional experiences, involves the application of theory to practice and vice versa, and stresses the use of data for decision making. Similarly the curriculum for children in schools builds on the language and literacy learning which students bring to school and ongoing observation of their learning in order to closely match instruction to student level in order to assist them in achieving system standards. Finally, two practicums at two different age levels within each program and a course which focuses on the responsibilities of literacy specialists allow the candidates to experience leadership and teaching responsibilities of role of the literacy specialist.

Requirements of M.S. in Special Education at Kansas State University

Kansas Certification Requirements

Each area of specialization has a separate course sequence designed by the College of Education;
these have been approved by the Kansas State Board of Education (KSBE) and the National
Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The special education
endorsement can be granted to a person who holds a valid Kansas teaching certificate.

Special education endorsement can be met without completion of the master’s degree. However,
most students choose to complete the master’s degree while working toward endorsement.
Completing the master’s degree is recommended by the special education faculty. Students who
intend to complete a master’s degree should apply for admission to the master’s program before
completing nine hours of graduate coursework.

M.A. Language Literacy and Culture at University Of California Berkeley

Studies in Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) center on promoting equity and honoring socio-cultural and linguistic diversity; transforming schools and other educational spaces; supporting teachers as learners across their careers; and fostering promising social futures for all youth. To accomplish these aims, we focus on the most fundamental human tool and resource, language. We consider the importance of the aesthetic as well the functional. Besides using language as a lens for understanding, we also consider other pivotal ways that humans learn, communicate, and create through a variety of symbolic systems: from visual images to digital media to dance. Especially in an increasingly digital world, we feel it is necessary to explore how these symbol systems often work in combination as we create and communicate. Through these lenses, we investigate such issues as equity across race, ethnicity, gender, and social class; youth culture; migration and immigration; globalization; and home, school, and community interactions. Interweaving theory and practice, we are interested in these issues as they impact learning and language development, teaching and teacher education, and school and public policy.
The M.A. is for students wishing to

• explore the various areas of specialization within LLSC;

• earn an M.A. degree in addition to a basic or advanced teaching credential; or

• acquire the appropriate background for admission to the Ph.D. or Ed.D. program.

Students take courses that cover the basic concepts and theories in language and literacy learning as well as courses for their area of specialization or teaching credential.
