The Bachelor of Science in English Education is designed to prepare students who plan to teach English in a secondary school. This program offers an individual thorough knowledge of grammar, composition, language, and literature, including a theoretical base for continued research in each of these areas. In addition, it contains a strong foundational knowledge of the educational process and specific training in those methods which are appropriate and effective for teaching English. Secondary English Education majors also receive extensive Bible training.

\The Bachelor of Science degree programs in Physical Education Teacher Education and Fitness and Recreation at the University of South Carolina Upstate are designed to meet the needs of students who wish to become certified teachers in the public schools or work in the area of fitness, recreation, and/or community wellness.
Students will have opportunities to discuss and debate ethical issues within their individual curricula, to develop a philosophy of universal physical education and fitness with an overriding commitment to the wellness of every individual.
Students will have an opportunity for and an expectation of involvement in professional and community activities related to their major.

A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education is designed to prepare highly qualified K-6 teachers in a caring and intellectually stimulating environment. Students will have many opportunities to work with children in classroom settings and to observe master teachers at work.
Elementary Education students are encouraged to attend educational conferences and to participate in local, state and national education-based organizations.
Kappa Delta Epsilon (KDE) is our education honor society. Students who are members of KDE are encouraged to attend the local, regional and national meetings.
Elementary Education courses are designed to support state and national standards in education and to prepare students to be technologically ready.

Speech and Theatre Education B.S
Students who plan to teach Speech and/or Theater in grades 9-12 in Missouri complete these major requirements and those of the Secondary Certification program (39 hours).
Students interested in becoming certified to teach in other states need to follow these program requirements and be recommended for Missouri certification by the Registrar. They may then take that certification to other states. Policies vary among states.
Information on the curriculum, policies and requirements of the university’s Teacher Education Program and of its teacher certification process is available in the Teacher Education Program handbook. The handbook is posted on the Education program’s website.
Introduction to Teacher Education (EDU 105) is recommended for students in this certification.
Required:
All Speech and Theater Education majors will 1. Complete the core requirements (12 credits); 2. Complete a concentration (Speech or Theater, 21 credits; and 3. Complete 12 credits in the other concentration.

A bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from William Woods University will prepare you to become an elementary teacher in grades 1-6, certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. You will be able to touch the lives and futures of children, their families and communities while experiencing one of the most fulfilling careers available.
Our evening program allows working adults to complete the bachelor’s degree and earn certification while they continue working full-time. Those who have previously completed a bachelor’s degree can join the cohort to complete the certification requirements without having to complete a second degree. The Bachelor of Science - Elementary Education is approved by DESE and fully accredited.
This degree program requires students to complete 38 hours of specific education courses and an additional 15 hours of student teaching and educational seminar. The student teaching will be completed in a public school classroom during a 12-week block at the end of the program. Student Teaching will require the student to be available during the school day for completion of this requirement.
Each six week class meets twice a week either on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays for 4 hours/night. The program will be 23 months long, including student teaching.
Instructors in the Elementary Education program are part of the Education Division of William Woods University, assuring students the same educational experience they would have attending the day program in Fulton.

The Department of Education and Music offer a major in music education, which prepares students for placement as choral music teachers in classrooms grades K-12.
The program requires music coursework in voice, piano, aural skills, creative and analytical concepts, orchestration, choral conducting, music literature, music history, and diction. Additionally, students take courses in professional development such as childhood development and learning, adolescent and adult development, measurement and evaluation.
