Program information
The Bachelor of Education (Middle Years) is a four year pre-service teacher qualification designed for effective teacher preparation in the unique contemporary context. The program develops capacities required by teachers working in the information age, a time of rapid change where education is recognised as playing an increasingly important role in society. The program develops specialist teachers across the year levels 4-9, aligning with the Middle Phase of Learning. In particular, the program focuses on the development of skills, understandings and attributes that enable graduates to demonstrate specialist abilities with respect to:

Diversity and differentiated learning
Leadership and research

Placement courses
Compulsory Placement Courses

Students are required to complete 80 days of supervised practicum and 40 days of internship over the 4 years of the program. Every effort is made to place students within a reasonable distance of their home base but they can be expected to travel up to 90 minutes due to public transport connections and incur costs associated with travel and possible lost income over this period. Students are generally placed at Ipswich, Brisbane, and southeast Queensland and are encouraged to explore the option of a rural placement. Rural scholarships are available from the School of Education to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

Additional costs
Students are responsible for transport costs and incidentals when undertaking practicum and internship placements. Please note that some placements may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
Supplementary information
Students are required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing the practicums. Students can apply for a Blue Card through the School of Education and should do so three months before their practicum is due to commence. The Practicum Handbook provides additional information about practicum and school experience requirements and is available from the School of Education.

To complete follow the rules to Bachelor of Education (Middle Years of Schooling), a student must complete a requisite number of courses chosen from the Program list and according to the Rules for the program. A student is required to obtain #64 from the Bachelor of Education (Middle Years of Schooling) list.

Students can undertake the program on a part time basis. However for periods of practicum placement, it is necessary for students to be substantially free during the day to meet practicum requirements. The final semester of the program requires full time attendance.

Entry Requirements Students are required to have a completed Bachelor degree as the minimum entry requirement. Students should be working in the Higher Education sector in a teaching capacity to gain maximum benefit from the program.

This program will only be available to international students who are concurrently enrolled in a PhD and have a valid CoE for the higher research degree.
