M.Ed. in Educational Technology Integration at Grand Valley State University

Educational Technology Integration

This program prepares educators at all levels to integrate technology into classroom settings. Program content includes the educational application of technology, including computers and the Internet, for a variety of professional and instructional purposes. Courses concentrate on pedagogical issues, curriculum integration, software and Web-site evaluation, acquisition and use of instructional materials and media, social and ethical issues for technology use in K-12 settings, school and classroom adoption of technology, and web-based and on-line instructional development. Degree requirements include, in addition to the foundation courses, EDG 619, 620, 621, 626, 628 or 629, 634, six credits of advisor approved electives, and either ED 693 or ED 695.

B.S. in Physical Education P.E. Teaching at Gallaudet University

Students have the opportunity to complete prerequisites for certification in teaching physical education at the K-12 school level. Preparing to become a Physcial Education teacher requires two components.

1. Students must acquire content knowledge and develop skills specific to the methodology of teaching Physcial Education. This is offered in the Physcial Education teaching emphasis major.

2. Students must also acquire knowledge and develop skills necessary to pursue and achieve teaching certification. This is offered through the Department of Education a major in Education with a specialization in Secondary Education (K-12 Physical Education/Teacher Education).

Students who want to prepare for teacher certification must apply for admission to the Teacher Preparation Program and take a combination of courses from the physical education major plus courses in psychology, human development, instructional development, teaching methods, curricula, and a supervised field practicum teaching experience. The physical education degree program at Gallaudet is specifically designed to prepare students for teaching on the secondary (K-12) school level. Additionally students may pursue the unique opportunity to be trained in adventure-based programming which focuses on challenge activities to provide students with elevated levels of self-confidence, trust, and self-esteem.

Program Description

PHD Educational Technology

The focus of the PhD program in Educational Technology is on the design, development, and evaluation of instructional systems and on educational technology applications to support learning. The doctoral program emphasizes research using educational technology in applied settings.
The PhD degree in Educational Technology prepares students for a variety of professional positions. Graduates are typically employed as university faculty, educational technologists in universities, community colleges, and schools or as training managers in corporate settings.
Degree Requirements

A minimum of 84 semester hours beyond the bachelor’s degree. At least 54 of these hours must be taken at Arizona State University after admission to the PhD program. The following 48 credit hours of course work is required for all students in the Educational Technology doctoral program: Foundations and Issues in Educational Technology; Design and Development of Instruction; Instructional Media Design; Development of Computer-Based Instruction; Educational Evaluation; Theoretical Views of Learning; Introduction to Data Analysis; Multiple Regression/Correlation; Research in Educational Technology; Advanced Instructional Development; Advanced Educational Technology Research; and Dissertation. One year full-time in residency, a research publication, and a written comprehensive examination and successful defense of the dissertation are required.

Electives: 36 credit hours minimum
Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit a Graduate College application, transcripts and GRE results.

Academic requirements for admission to the Educational Technology doctoral program include: A four-year undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above; scores of 500 or above on both the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE); a score of 4 or above on the analytical writing section of the GRE; a score of 600 (paper-based) or above on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 100 iBT is also required for students who do not speak English as their first language. In addition, a statement of professional goals, two professional references, and a resume are needed.

Health and Physical Education from Cleveland State University

The program is designed for health and physical education teachers and coaches in school settings. Focus is placed on instructional development and advanced knowledge and skills in general educational principles. A curricular area of specialization is pursued to increase awareness and understanding of current educational trends and issues. The areas of specialization are human performance, sport and exercise psychology, physical education pedagogy (suspended until further notice), and school health education, including options for initial or second licensure in multi-age health education.
