Internship Program
All FPU candidates who are employed as special education teachers may seek qualification for an internship credential. An application may or may not be accepted due to qualifications and/or suitability of the candidate. This credential may be applied for and obtained following the successful completion of specific initial coursework, qualifying experiences and employer agreement and at the discretion and evaluation of the intern program director. Intern candidates are considered to be promising educators who demonstrate the innate qualities of a distinguished teacher and those of an educational leader.

The internship offers a candidate the opportunity to teach with the same status and benefits as a fully credentialed teacher. Policies and pay schedules offer more security to the candidate and the university is able to provide direct assistance within the classroom. The intern director is able to serve both as an advocate for the candidate and an administrative partner to the employer. These advantages allow for an enhanced degree of communication between parties and permit the university faculty to monitor the mentorship structure provided by the employer.

The university is able to provide the candidate with special training seminars and activities that are especially designed to assist them in their new responsibilities. An internship is an expanded opportunity to augment communication with the university faculty, peers and the employer. Interns maintain an aggressive program of studies that promote credential completion generally within a period of two years.

New candidates are expected to begin the internship process at their initial advisement session and an application should be filed as soon as they are considered to be qualified. All eligibility criteria must be completed and verified in a timely manner.

Intern Teaching Program at Alliant International University

Intern Teaching Program - San Francisco

Looking for a program in San Francisco that will allow you to gain your California Teaching Credential and become a teacher? Look no further!

California offers a variety of internships that allow individuals to be the teacher of record while completing a university’s professional preparation program. Alliant International University Graduate School of Education’s Teacher Internship Programs are approved by the CCTC (California Commission on Teacher Credentialing). Alliant’s internships are cooperative teaching programs between Alliant and an employing school district, and they are administered by the University.

Completion of Alliant’s Internship Program results in the issuance of a preliminary or professional clear credential.

University Internship Teaching Credentials are issued by CCTC to individuals who have enrolled in a university’s (Alliant’s) internship programs. These one- to two-year programs are designed to provide participants with classroom experience as teachers of record while they complete course work requirements for the preliminary teaching credential. Alliant’s CCTC Internship Credential authorizes the holder to serve, under the supervision of Alliant faculty and field supervisors, in the area or subject listed on the credential. Alliant’s CCTC Internship Credentials are offered in the following areas:
Multiple Subject Teaching
Single Subject Teaching

Multiple Subject Teaching with BCLAD ECredential (Spanish and Hmong)

Alliant’s TeachersCHOICE Program offers two pathways of support during your teaching internship: a standard intern teaching program and the intern teaching Early Completion Option (ECO) program.
Standard Intern Teaching Program

The Standard Intern Program supports and advances candidates who have a paid teaching position in an accredited K-12 California school while you are simultaneously completing required coursework. This is an intensive route with significant time demands but is often the preferred route for highly motivated candidates who need the theoretical foundation provided by graduate education coursework.

A part of required coursework includes two semesters (6 units each semester) of Intern Teaching and Seminar, inclusive of monthly evening seminars and field supervision which features four observations / mentoring conferences each semester.

For additional information regarding internship programs, see this CCTC website link.
Intern Teaching - Early Completion Option

The Intern Early Completion Option (ECO), which is offered in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego, supports and advances candidates who have experience in teaching as well as education and instructional strategies or who are a career changer. ECO intern candidates currently have an offer of employment as a paid Intern teacher in an accredited K-12 California school .

The ECO Program is for candidates who are looking for a path that acknowledges and honors their background. Candidates who, through passing the Teaching Foundations Examination, demonstrate their competency and skill in teaching, may waive most traditionally required teacher education coursework.

The two-semester program includes intensive classroom observations and mentoring with university field supervisor site visits a minimum of eight times per semester for two semesters as well as weekly seminar meetings and two Saturday seminars per semester, focusing on advanced issues critical to the teacher’s success and the success of urban K-12 students.

For additional information regarding the Early Completion Option Internship Programs, see this CCTC website link. Comparison of TeachersCHOICE teacher preparation pathways can be seen here.
