The Department has undertaken a Major Research Project on “Occupational Stress, Professional Burnout and Job Satisfaction among Special Education Teachers in South India” funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi. Two Research Associates and One Computer Operator are working in the Project. Further, the Department of Education of Periyar University is playing leadership role by providing guidance to the 25 Private Management B. Ed. Colleges affiliated to Periyar University, for Quality Improvement in Teacher Education.

With the well trained Human Resources employed and Infrastructure facilities available, the Department of Education is planning to set up the following centers.
Centre for Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences with the aim to promote Teaching, Training, Research and Outreach Programmes (M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D in Disability Studies of Rehabilitation Sciences).
Centre for Research Guidance and Counselling with a view to provide academic, social and personal guidance to the students with learning problems / learning difficulties. The Centre for Disability Studies and Centre for Research Guidance & Counselling shall function together within the Department of Education.
Centre for Language Learning with well equipped Language Lab to develop Communicative Skills among University Students and Students with Learning Problems, particularly in English.

Certification for Special Education Administrator at Rivier College Hampshire

Designed for candidates with a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience in working with students with disabilities in approved schools or programs and certification in a special education field such as special learning disabilities. It leads to certification as a special education administrator. The program requires many field-based experiences related to the course work as well as a 150-hour internship with a certified special education administrator.

General Information

This program is designed to prepare candidates to meet the educational needs of a wide variety of children. To accomplish this, you will receive experiences in several key areas: educational psychology and human development, education of culturally diverse and special needs populations, practical and sequential experiences in the schools, teaching methodology, and a strong liberal arts education. Marygrove’s Special Education program will provide a strong foundation in the knowledge, skills and dispositions considered foundational to all special education practitioners as well as those more specific to the area of learning disabilities.

This program combines regular elementary or secondary teaching certification with a K-12 endorsement in learning disabilities.

After completion of the special education major, you qualify for teaching certification and an endorsement in Learning Disabilities (SM). Graduates are also required to pass
the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification exams. This provisional certificate identifies you as a specialist in the field and makes you a marketable applicant when seeking a teaching position.

Teachers who already hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate can add the SM endorsement by completing the courses in the endorsement sequence. The State of Michigan grants the endorsement after successful completion of coursework and the Michigan Test for Teaching Certification in the areas of Learning Disabilities and Elementary Education.

> General Information

The Education Unit, in cooperation with other academic units, prepares students for teaching at the preschool, elementary, and secondary levels. Entrance into the College does not guarantee admission to the Teacher Certification (TCCERT) Program. Students must make a separate application to the Teacher Certification Program. Prior to admission to the TCCERT program, undergraduates will be assigned an advisor who will assist in planning the sequence of certification courses. Students must have a certifiable major and minor and adhere to the certification requirements as listed below in order to obtain teacher certification.

After successfully completing the College’s degree requirements (including the certifiable major and certifiable minor course work for teacher certification), approved First Aid and CPR (Adult & Child) training, and passing the appropriate Michigan tests for Teacher Certification (MTTC), you will be eligible for recommendation by Marygrove to the State of Michigan for a Provisional Teaching Certificate. Two specific teaching disciplines are offered in the education unit: Early Childhood Education (minor) and Special Education (major). Specific departments in the College offer all other teaching majors and minors. For full descriptions of these programs, see their respective program sections in this catalog.

> Accreditation

Marygrove has the approval of the State of Michigan Department of Education for its certification programs. Students in early childhood education obtain the Early Childhood minor endorsement (ZA) while Special Education students earn the Learning Disabilities major endorsement (SM).

MS in Special Education at Montana State University Billings Montana

The Master of Science in Special Education Advanced Studies Option is designed for individuals who have an undergraduate degree in special education, have a special education endorsement on their teaching certificate, or who wish to pursue advanced studies in special education but do not wish to teach P-12 special education. The degree prepares candidates to teach in a categorical or cross-categorical area of special education, advance toward administrative positions, pursue positions in related fields, do research in special education, or pursue a doctoral degree. Candidates studying for this degree must have taken the following prerequisite courses within six years of beginning the master’s program: SPED 260 or SPED 540, SPED 310, SPED 311, SPED 312, SPED 375, SPED 405, and RD 417 or equivalents. Degree completion requires three courses in the Professional Core (9 credits) and ten courses in the Professional Specialization (30 credits).
