The purpose of the Bible Teaching program is to develop the ministry skill of teaching Bible in Christian and public schools in North America, in government and missionary children’s schools overseas, and in other areas of Christian work. The heart of the program is to train students to study and to teach the Bible according to the pattern of biblical revelation. Special emphasis is given on planning the scope and sequence of a Bible curriculum according to the chronology of the Bible and on teaching each Bible lesson with integrity. Graduates of this program receive the “all-level” certification in Bible from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education offers two undergraduate majors: Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Both programs offer a sequence of course work in the theory and practice of education and provide students with field experiences. Early childhood education students who successfully complete their program are certified to teach pre-kindergarten through grade five. Elementary education students who successfully complete the elementary education program are certified to teach kindergarten through grade five. Those students who are interested in teaching grades K-2 are best served by enrolling in the Early Childhood major. All programs and all courses reflect state and national standards, with special emphasis on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Any student seeking additional endorsements or teaching certificates beyond what is specifically awarded by their academic program should contact the State of New Jersey Department of Education directly for details about any additional courses or standardized tests that may be required.

The secondary education specialization is intended for experienced teachers who wish to extend their understanding of teaching-learning processes and the situational contexts in which they occur. The specialization offers considerable opportunity for the in-depth study of current theory, research, and practice that is particularly related to the design and delivery of effective instruction in grades seven through twelve. While built around the College Core, degree requirements are sufficiently flexible to allow for individual needs and interests. For example, students may use elective hours in the professional specialization sequence to increase their knowledge in their academic discipline; investigate new teaching methods and technologies; or explore further the educational needs of a particular group of learners. Students also may choose to expand their understanding of the cognitive, affective, social, cultural, and motivational dimensions of learning, and/or develop additional skills needed to assume greater leadership roles in the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of instructional programs. The Secondary Education program does not provide for any form of teacher licensure or endorsement.

Students are not fully admitted into the program until they have passed CNS 620. Thus, this course must be the first taken in the professional counselor education sequence. Other counselor education professional courses may be taken simultaneously, but not before completing this courses (see sequence below). It is important to note that, in accordance with CACREP accreditation, students are evaluated throughout the program on their academic performance, as well as their personal and professional development, which includes mental and emotional wellness. There also are courses in the program where students will be asked to engage in personal growth components that involve self-disclosure.

Claremont McKenna College offers a sequence in Gender Studies through participation in the six campus joint program in Women’s Studies and Gender Studies. Gender Studies is a program that is particularly well-suited to the CMC focus on leadership in business, public affairs, and the professions.
The Gender Studies sequence is designed to accompany a major in another field. With its emphasis on the relationships between gender and society historically and cross-culturally, and on the changes now occurring in the roles of women and men, on the participation of women in the major institutions of society, and on women themselves, a Gender Studies sequence is an ideal accompaniment to virtually any major at CMC. The transcript indicates official completion of this sequence. Interested students must consult with Professor Humes, the Gender Studies faculty advisor for CMC.

Oregon Health Sciences University offers a D.M.D. degree in Dentistry and an M.D. degree in Medicine, and Oregon State University offers a D.V.M. in Veterinary Medicine.
Because admission into these professional schools is highly competitive, students should plan to transfer to a four-year institution upon completion of the first year at Chemeketa. Students should complete the most rigorous chemistry sequence for which they are qualified, as well as stipulated courses in basic science and general education.
As a student, you are responsible for learning the departmental requirements of the school to which you plan to transfer. Consult with Chemeketa’s Counseling and Career Services or a Chemeketa advisor. Also you should make early contact with an advisor at the institution to which you plan to transfer to learn of any possible changes in an academic area.

This nationally recognized Ph.D. program emphasizes informed, ethical decision making in the administration of higher education. It is intended to launch its graduates into new areas and/or higher levels of leadership in colleges and universities. Students take core coursework in higher education foundations, administration, governance and organization, law, and the college student. Each student, in collaboration with her/his advisor, fashions a four course cognate that leads to specialization in an area of personal and professional interest. The sequence of four research courses culminates in a dissertation of original contribution to the knowledge of higher education. Based on a full-time cohort model, the program is designed to be completed in three years.
