Degree of Kinesiology Education at Miracosta College

Kinesiology is the study of human anatomy and physiology and the mechanics of body movement. Coursework at MiraCosta will prepare students for entry-level positions in health and fitness clubs, wellness centers and individualized personal training. Students may also prepare to transfer with a kinesiology major by completing general education and preparation for major requirements.

Career options include personal trainer, exercise instructor and various positions at fitness and recreational centers or in school or recreational programs. A four-year degree may prepare students for entrance to physical therapy programs as well as prepare students for athletic training, fitness, nutrition, other health-related fields including teaching physical education.

Gateway to Business

The Gateway to Business program is our one-class-per-month program for working professionals, leading to an Associate’s degree in Business Administration in two years. Classes meet two nights per week(Tuesdays and Thursdays) and some Saturday mornings at our Roseville-Gateway center. In most cases, coursework is equal to the first two years of study at CSUS and UC schools. For more information, call (916) 781-6200.

Energy Technology

Sierra College will develop curriculum, identify faculty, and work with partners to build lab training facilities. Students will learn essential safety skills, construction skills, and the fundamentals of photovoltaic system installation and maintenance. The training will qualify graduates for employment by the Sacramento area’s private photovoltaic companies, homebuilders, government, and electric utility companies. This program is under development and is planned to begin in the Fall 2009 semester at both the Rocklin and Nevada County Campuses.

Nutrition & Fitness Trainer Certificate

There is a great need for qualified nutrition/ fitness professionals locally. Take just six courses (18 units), which you can complete in two semesters, and have a new career! This certificate can lead to entry-level jobs as a fitness specialist at local area health clubs.
